Vw Polo G40 Tornado Red (1341cc Engine)
« on: October 11, 2010, 02:01:47 pm »
Ive owned the car over 3 years and spent thousands on it,
Its been my daily driver to and from work which is 200 miles a week so ive kept it maintained.
It has 164,000 on the clock but dont let that put you off as the new engine has been in it for 9000 miles and all the chassis wearing parts have been replaced.

Original G40, one of 500 which was sold in the uk between 1990-1994. Theres nowere near 500 left today...

ENGINE

Running around 160bhp, in a car that weighs less than an old mini.
Keeps up with alot of bigger engine cars, which makes it very fun to drive!

1341cc Bottom end with wossner forged pistons (Standard compression ratio)
Standard head & Cam (Skimmed with valve seats recut, I have a 1341 cam but havent fitted it)
Lightened and balanced flywheel (Rev happy)
Fast road clutch
51mm Throttle Body with dewedged butterfly valve
Green injectors (250cc)
65mm supercharger pulley
Chip to suit
Full blend charger (Serviced by myself with a bit of extra porting and polishing inside)
Stand alone oil feed for charger (running cool thin machine oil at low psi)
Jabbasport air filter behind front bumper
Intercooler replaced

Jackson tuning custom manifold into 2.5inch straight through exhaust system. Built on the car.
(No cat needed as its emissions exempt)

In the 3 years I've owned the car I've replaced:

Wheel bearings all round
Front top mounts
Lamda probe
Knock sensor
Radiator
Intercooler
Front disks
Front & rear pads
Fan
Water Pump
Oil Pump
Cambelt
Clutch & release bearing
Airflow sensor
Idle control valve
Blue & black temp sensors
Distributor, cap & rotor arm
Ht Leads
Ignition coil
New earth cables
Battery
Expansion tank

INTERIOR

Stripped out rear seats with 4mm ply and carpetted (light ply and thin carpet, to save weight!)
T-Bar lock which is welded to the chassis and locks the car into reverse gear
Drivers seat is worn on one side the bolster has gone but its been like that for 3 years and doesnt affect your comfort
Steering wheel (bit worn, i still have the standard one)
Stereo with 3 inch screen
Vibe K series 5inch rear components
Sony 4inch dash speakers

EXTERIOR

The car had a full respray not long after i got it,it was very faded. Since then ive washed and waxed it every week
Colour coded front and back bumpers, wing mirrors and rear
Black trims all sprayed black as the plastic was also faded and these are lower maintenance than back to black
60mm air intake in front bumper
Silver trim on bumpers
Supercharged engraved on door handle inserts
Late spec rear lights
Clear side indicators
Bullet ariel (it works aswell)
Aero wipers
Debadged front grill
Boot has been debadged, with a plate welded in and smoothed (no filler involved)
De locked boot plinth (Needs a boot soleniod to work hands free, otherwise just flick the catch)
Number plate surrounds (I have 2 sets of plates German font and UK legal ones, had to change them 2 days after i put them on!)

Starmag 7x13 alloys proper vw fitment not the usual mini fitment
Rear axle replaced and painted with brakes stripped down and cleaned
New front disks & pads with painted calipers
Front G-Laderseite anti roll bar blocks (noticed quite an improvement with the front end with these)
Rear standard bushes replaced
The car has a suspension kit but it was already on the car, its a bit firmer ride and a bit lower but im unsure how low it is.

Bad points: (shown in pics)

Their are a few minor points which need sorting out as with any car, the paint on the front bumper has cracked when we put the engine in as it was an ideal knee resting place which cracked the paint and has come off in time. The front wings i dont think were prepped properly when they were sprayed as all along the groove, paint has started cracking and coming off, their must have been silicone or wax under the paint as the wings show no signs of rust, the wings are pattern parts, I will include a pair of faded red vw wings with the car which would be ideal to spray.

Theirs also a couple of dents on the rear quarter wing where some scumbag kids decided to punch my car with a wheelnut shortly after it was resprayed. Ive touched it up best i can and covered it with bullethole stickers!

Apart from the ovious bodywork problems the rest of the car paintwork is good and no signs of rust which is good.
