Title: Daily G drivers?
Post by: Justin14100 on January 25, 2011, 08:55:55 pm
Ok, so I'm a daily G driver. How many more are there?
I drive her at ease most of the time, I've done 16K in her last year alone and since I've had her I've done about 28k. Her milage is 188k now.
But what can i say? I love it, last two tanks have been a 40mpg and a 33mpg - cant complain with that, best of all now and then it does get a good blast and it has that G40 kick!
Just been really pleased driving it today and wanted to share with you how happy I am with it :)

am a daily ( 6 months of the year, summer time.) and cover 15k in the six months but it get enough punishment through that time to cover a years worth lol. this year i will hit the 1/4 million miles mark. its sitting at 243k at the mo and over the years i hope to see the 300k on the original block.
U can never beat the feeling of jumping in a G after 6 months, after driving a 90hp diesel golf for the other 6. ;D

I'm aiming for decade'ly driver.

:D I reckon that'll be me too! 8 years since it was on the road and probably 6 since it last moved under it's own steam!

Mine was a daily driver for a year and a half, (till the charger popped an oil seal) but when all the salt and snows here makes you wish it wasnt.

Mine hasn't been for a while, but I do use it close to daily through the summer when the weather's good. That said, with my job situation the way it is it's about to become a daily again. I've got to sell the Passat before the summer, when the G comes back from the bodyshop. Gonna use rentals and press cars for work jobs.

But while mine isn't any more, I did used to use it daily for seven years. It got me from Cardiff to Sheffield regularly while Caroline was studying up there. Then when I moved to Peterborough it did the weekly drive home to Cardiff. Back in 2006 I did a month in Kent and racked up - wait for it - 4,000 miles in a month. And that was the July heatwave too. It shat a rear wheel bearing but that's it. My car has been used to move furniture during five of the eight house moves I've done since I've had it, and I brought the G40 engine back from the Peak District in the boot. It's done its workhorse duty!

Look after a G40 and it'll look after you. Trouble is, lots of them these days have had at least one owner that's a bit of a wrongun and hasn't been kind to it. Careful owners then inherit the world of pain.

About to click over the 190k mark, so will be almost 2k in a month - really cant put into words at how pleased i have been with the car over the almost 2 years i've owned it. Been taking it easy recently and its such a nice drive when taking it easy. Charger service is coming up shortly but almost done a good 30k on it. Love it.

ive had mine for 6 months put about 15k on the clocks (touching wood) only thing that has gone majorly wrong so far is the gearbox , small fire behind dash which was the heater wire catching fire ! lol , which was a polo gt box so probably done 150k before i got my grubby little hands on it !! just remember to keep on top of all the little things that you forget easily snd it will be fine for a daily peace zeeman .

going to be my daily for at least two years (fingers crossed), my sister is driving my much more practical 6n2 tdi, but hoping to be able to insure both at a later date.

Before mine came off the road for a bit of minor maintenance in 2007 it was a daily.
Was doing about 30 miles a day. Took it from 36k to 90k in 6 years so not spaceship mileage.

Loved everyday driving it.

When its back on the road will try and find excuses again just to take it out  ;D

Just wanted to rekindle this and see if 3 years on there are still a few G's used on the regular.

I do 40 miles a day/250 a week. bought a polo van to re-shell the engine so i can work on the original shell and bring it back to life with some welding and a new coat

Mine is on about 204k now I think. Its off the road as I don't live in the country right now, in dry storage. Will I use it again daily when I'm home? I'm not sure. She needs work and restoration now.

I had GrayG40's car for ten years as a daily and apart from a dead ECU, it never missed a beat in 140k. Even my wife loved it. Sold it with 170k on the clock and after that driving became a total pisser hence another G outside the house.

Mine was a daily for about a year, did 15k roughly, drove 2500 to Switzerland and back. Had no end of problems, left me stranded 6 Times in that year, has broken down so much I've had to get another car as a daily now and the G is now the toy

Still using mine doing about 500 miles a month.

Mine covers less than 200 miles a year. I take it out for the odd blast now and again when the weather is nice and that's about it! I probably spend more time cleaning and maintaining it than driving it...
