Title: 250 Kpa sensor fitting instructions required
Post by: ParkerDub on November 17, 2011, 05:24:50 pm
wondering if anybody can tell me where this sensor is fitted, looked in ecu and only 3 pins visible on old unit and cant think where else this could go. cheers parker

You remove the old MAP sensor (the big lump on the PCB with "Bosch 200kPa" written on the side of it) and solder the replacement one in its place.

What's the replacement sensor that you've got look like?

Found it mate, was a 6 prong sensor was totaly confused. Found some instructions on max-rpm website after a bit of searching. Cheers all the same mate, much appreciated.

are you aware that you'll need a remap to suit the new map sensor? a map designed for a 200kpa sensor wont work with a 250kpa one (or any other different one for that matter).  Just wanted to make sure!

I noticed that today, feels alot slower, Do PPP do a suitable map, for standard injectors with a 65mm pulley and 250 kpA sensor?

Why have you gone for a 250kpa map sensor? What boost are you running?

From what you have said you aren't running that much boost if you are still on standard injectors.

Usually 250kpa sensors are used by turbo boys running high boost.

I was told by someone who i know that used to have one it was a good mod, tbh regretting it now. But its already soldered in so no going back now. Im running around 13-14 max psi with v belts and a belt dressing spray.

Looks like you have been slipped a custard then mate, having a higher rated map sensor doesn't increase performance, its only needed when the exist one (200kpa) reaches its limit and with you running 14psi max there is no way you need a 250kpa sensor.

Yup not taking the guys advice again. Will attempt to solder in old sensor onto current wires at some point. Thanks for the help lads, appreciate it alot.

I'd ask Andy at PPP if he can do you a new chip with a map on it to suit what you got now as you might damage the circuit board resoldering your old one back on. Plus if you decide in the future that you want to go down the turbo route then you have the ECU to match.

Or the other suggestion is to see if anyone wants to swap ECU's with you as there is always someone doing a turbo conversion who will need a 250kpa'd ECU.

Good idea Robin, I'm sure someone would be quite happy to swap as it is known to be working the 250 in it.

Sent them an email, il see what they say. Its going off the road for winter at the end of the month anyway so plenty time to think up a plan, not looking forward to the 1litre mk gonna miss the grunt of the G :(

If anyone is up for a swap however i would be more than happy to swap, have soldered wires in from the circuit board so wont be too tricky to change back to original.

Bit late now, but you need to swap maps/chips if you fit a 250kPa MAP sensor...

Unless you're running over 15psi of boost I'd stick with the stock part. If you're still G-lader'd the best option I'd suggest is doing what Robin said and swapping ECUs with someone that's going turbo or Eaton etc. and running high boost.

Il look into it andy cheers for the advice.

Depending on how you modded your ECU it could be easy enough to go back to what you had...

Aye iv soldered wires onto terminals and ten soldered each wire on to terminals on sensor. Dont fancy doing it hungover with the shakes thats for sure! Lol
