Respraying a G
« on: September 26, 2013, 10:21:16 pm »
So I am slowly building up a good stock of new panels. The question is, should I respray it tornado red? Or would it be sacrilege to spray in a Capri green or Windsor blue?

It's really up to you mate.
If the shell is originally Tornado red then it is easier to keep it that way. Personally I wouldn't be happy knowing it was a different colour behind the interior trim and under the bonnet etc. To do a complete and proper colour change is a very time consuming and hence expensive job.
However, if a colour change is really what you want or you actually dislike the original colour why not change it?

Tornado red (not pink) looks very smart when clean, I've been told by a few different painters that the original recipe of paint has changed over the years. When I last had paint mixed there were 12 or so variations of Tornado Red on their system, no idea what the difference is...

I like red G40s, but I'm biased  ;)

Only way to do a colour change is properly and its a time consuming and pricey job.

Inside, bay and underneath all need to be painted.

Been thinking about this for my mk1 but it can double or treble the price of the respray from just getting the outside frenshened up, obviously depending on how much you are doing.

Also difficult finding a good bodyshop that wants to do that much work

yeah the only way to do a colour change properly is a fair bit more expensive than a normal respray.

If you do a 'cheap' colour change it'll look crap and reduce the resale value of your car when you want to sell it one day.
