SOLD
« on: September 03, 2013, 06:48:12 pm »
Hey guys im back. Im having trouble selling this G40. Im running out of patience and I need the bloody space. Its currently costing me to store it so somebody come and take it for £2500! If it doesnt sell within a week im renewing my garage lease and its going back up to £3500.

Heres the description and pics copied directly from the ebay ad. If you want to know more then let me know.

---

Im selling an original, unmolested Polo G40. Its registered on a 1999 'T' plate and has 53,689 miles. It is the rarest of the rare. There are only two others like it.

A bit of background information:
This car was originally exported to Malaysia in the early 90's along with two others. The three of them sat there for many years unsold, and in 1999 they were reimported back here and registered in 1999, this one on a 'T' plate.

The car was used up until 2006, where it was then dry stored in a garage for whatever reason. My brother then stumbled upon it and bought it with the intention of keeping it and making it concours standard. He almost got there but moved to Australia with the wife and kids before he could finish it.

I have since been left with the car and no idea what to do with it. He initially said he wanted me to keep it and finish it but lack of time and space means it has to go, that and its not really my cup of tea.

My brother got as far as MOT'ing it after having a lot of work done, but since then it has been garaged and not driven. I start it up occasionally to make sure it stays in good working condition.

Further information:
So this is a one-owner car with 53,689 miles. It comes with service history and bills for parts and work carried out.

This car is very clean. The bodywork is almost immaculate. There is minimal rust. Ive had a look on the underside and I was amazed for a car this old. It is a totally bog standard, unmolested G40 with 53k on the clock in Windsor Blue (metallic).

The mechanicals are sound. No knocks, bangs, or strange noises.

The interior is mint. No holes, no wear.

It comes with history from the previous owner and some from my brother. My brother had a lot of work done to this car, including a cambelt change and a supercharger service.

The car is currently SORN and has been garaged from day one.

It flew through the last MOT with no advisories.

The bad bits:
There is small parking ding on the passenger door. A paintless dent removal company would find this no problem to remove.

There are two small, shallow scratches (one to two inches long) above the fuel filler cap. They would most likely buff out with a rotary polisher.

The only bit of rust I can see is a small amount of bubbling on the slam panel. This would need to be rubbed down and painted.

The red stripe around the front bumper has flaked off a bit.

The black vinyl strip on the b-pillar on the passenger side needs replacing as a bit of it has come off. This is still available from the main dealer.

There is no tax, but I can arrange this at cost to the buyer.

Other than that it's in very good condition. The paint looks pretty good, but I reckon with a good cut and polish it would come up amazing.

The interiors good. No fading, rips or tears in the seats.

Everything's original and it drives spot on.

Theres a load of bills and receipts from the work my brother had done to it.

I will be MOT'ing it next weekend and i'm pretty confident it will pass.

If you have any questions please ask away. I am available for viewings most evenings and weekends.

I am open to offers but emails asking 'wts ur lowest price bruv?', and 'will you take £2k CASH???' will be ignored.
If you want to make me a daft offer and knock a grand off the asking price I sincerely urge you to come and have a look at the car first.

A lot of people have been asking about history. I had misplaced it but I've now found it.  The supercharger was serviced by Gwerks at a cost of £370, and a lot of work was carried out by a specialist called X-treem Motors at a cost of almost £1300.  Unfortunately I haven't had the car MOT'd yet due to dodgy brakes. I have recently replaced the master cylinder in hope of curing the problem but that hasn't sorted it. I suspect it may be the servo as the brakes feel hard, but not very powerful. I don't have the time to mess about with this car so whoever buys it really will get a bargain.

Some of you have sent me messages doubting the authenticity of this car, but here is a picture of the sticker inside the service book, which I hope will help to clear things up.

It's a smart looking machine indeed and I can understand your frustration at it not selling, but in truth I'm looking at the clock in KPH and the odometer in miles? Is it 53k in kilometres not miles or am I missing something(not unusual for me).

From what I gather it was unsold in Malaysia and then (re?)imported over here. I'd imagine that there were zero miles on the clock (or perhaps production line mileage). The clock and odo are both in miles. It would have been converted before it was sold over here so it should all be correct.

Well you really will  have bragging rights when you say you ran it off the clock at 240 MPH.

Whats that supposed to mean?

The clock and odo are both in mph. Protech is the company that carried out the conversion. Look them up.

Not looking to knock you chances of a sale mate, but ultimately that speedo conversion is pretty poor. There's no attempt to resolve the needle deflection issue and for that reason, you've got massive cramping of the scale. Any conversions I've seen have had a total re-work of the gearing and a layover on the dial. Proof of the pudding will be the MOT. Hopefully they'll see it as OK, but don't be surprised if you get a knockback.

Hardly the end of the world though, set of G40 UK spec clocks is easy enough to get hold of and then get set to the correct mileage. At the end of the day it's a 20 year old car, so I'd be buying on condition alone anyway - it's not like he's claiming delivery miles only, it's clearly been used but looks like it's been taken care of!

Its been MOT'd before and passed. Its been like this since 1999! I dont see any problem with it. If the buyer wishes to change the clocks then thats up to them. PhilJ has a set of late spec MPH clocks on 56k hes offered me, but I dont see the point in replacing them as I dont want the bloody car!

I agree, another set of clocks with adjusted mileage is the way to go. Just can't see what the originals were about. And yes it's an excellent machine for the money.

Not at all, look down the for sales and mine's in there too. It's just that the guy's having trouble shifting it and as he says himself, he's had people questioning the validity of the car. Personally I think it's an excellent buy and a genuine car. Just can't get my head round the speedo conversion. Maybe that's put other people off. If it has , hopefully this will put their minds at rest.
