Title: Changing boost with a smaller crank pulley
Post by: juan on December 17, 2008, 06:03:09 pm
As above, im wondering if anyone knows much about changing boost by varying the size of the crank pulley?

Is this a stupid idea? are there any problems i might encounter? (I know it will affect how fast the alternator spins but the alternator pulley could be changed accordingly)

reducing the crank pulley will decrease the rpm of the charger.  I believe the PSD toothed belt kits actually include a slightly larger than stock crank pulley which combined with the charger pulley they supplied gives the equivalent rpm as having a stock crank pulley size and 65mm charger pulley.  I believe the reason for this is that making the toothed charger pulley any smaller would mean not enough teeth on the belt mesh.

what are you trying to achieve?

Its for the pulley system on the eaton, as i was thinking of doing a two part pulley but it turns out this would require a fair bit of work :(

I think ive realised what to do now, but thanks for the info :)
