Failed MOT
«
on:
February 14, 2012, 10:30:35 pm »
Was expecting it to fail and it failed on 3 things.
Ball joints had too much ware/play - this is with the G40 ones i just recently bought
One was the brake compensator
steering rack boot split
They said that the compensator might be hard to get. Does anyone know if they still sell them at VW?
Main one for me is the TCA's as i need some. I have given my old non g40 ones to them to have a play with but if there no good what options do i have?

Compensator valve is leaking and it was quite a bad one.
I didnt think they were worn but the tester said there was a lot of play. Even when i changed them over last week i thought there was play in them.

You'll probably find a few firms who will re-con the TCA's in magazines like Classic Car.

G-ladersite sell tca's not sure if ppp selling there ones yet ?! Other than that just get non g40 ones and poly/nylon bush them.
Brake compensator is a stupid price from Vw i thinks it's a fraction over £200 you can get them from eBay for about £70 think Gsf do them aswell bit be careful there's two types on later type and one earlier not sure of there interchangeable they may require some brake pipe modification to fit although don't quote me on that.

Can't you recon the old compensator? It's preety much just a valve built into a bracket isn't it>?
