Post by: Dirrt on July 10, 2008, 11:26:32 am
Hey ;)
My name's Laura, 24 from Malvern, Worcestershire
I have just bought this sexy bitch

I need to put her in for a service, any recommendations as to where/who I should go local to me?
Though I don’t mind traveling for it to be done right!

looks a nice motor, i remember seeing it for sale

as for a service, i would highly recommend doing it yourself, a service is only simple stuff really water oil etc, anyone can do it

What spec is it? service history? history on the charger?

LOL
Thank you!
Always wanted one and now was the right time :P

This is all new to me being G40 virgin  >_<
I'm not completely retarded and am eager to learn my G inside and out, it's just learning it all

Oh, I'm talking bigger than all that! See my post on CP...
http://www.clubpolo.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=114531

- Temp guage sits high (100ish) whilst running and only drops when I drive, but since it's been raining she sits where she should do?
Faulty temp sender or dash fault?
- Can't see any markings on charger to know if it has been serviced?
But from history there was a rebuild at 113K and there are Jabba receipts
- She needs oil which I'm doing today, but I'd like to the seal checked
- Battery light has flashed a few times on starting her
- Exhaust is rattling so I need to get that sorted
- Clutch seemed like it was slipping Monday night and the brakes are shit!
- Oh and the boot didn't lock, which I didn't find out till I got home so I had a mate of mine delock it for now

I don't know 100%, i only got the basics as the previous owner wasn't all that helpful to be honest with you

oil filters - vw or mann ones (they have a valve in them)
spark plugs - ensure that they are bosch w5dpo (£10 each ish, but others some put in are not as good)
oil - semi synthetic oil

cambelts every 60,000 miles and change water pump at that interval

charger service - need doing after 70-80k then every 40k on a normal pulley, less on smaller ones.

welcome!!!! and enjoy!

Faulty temp sender or dash fault?  can be a sender or dash or a rubbish thermostat
- Can't see any markings on charger to know if it has been serviced?
But from history there was a rebuild at 113K and there are Jabba receipts - that sok then
- She needs oil which I'm doing today, but I'd like to the seal checked - semi synth 10/40 is recommended (seal????)
- Battery light has flashed a few times on starting her  - normal i think
- Exhaust is rattling so I need to get that sorted
- Clutch seemed like it was slipping Monday night and the brakes are shit! - ahhhh mk3 polo brakes aren't the best
- Oh and the boot didn't lock, which I didn't find out till I got home so I had a mate of mine delock it for now - soak it liberally in 3in1 oil!!! might work then

I don't know 100%, i only got the basics as the previous owner wasn't all that helpful to be honest with you
Couldn't hurt to give Jabba SPort a ring an see what work they have done on the car, they are usually pretty helpful an keep good records

Id get the battery checked out, and test the voltage of the alternator under load etc. good to get urself a multi meter.

Read the above thread it is very useful!

I like the 'supercharged' decal on the doors, I've never seen that before.

Faulty temp sender or dash fault?

Sounds like any other G, they do run quite high temperatures, in traffic especially, when moving air is flowing so engine will cool...

- Can't see any markings on charger to know if it has been serviced?
best to get it serviced if in doubt!

- She needs oil which I'm doing today, but I'd like to the seal checked
Id do the filter too!

- Battery light has flashed a few times on starting her
G40s always do this when you fire it up, tickle throttle and it goes away?

- Exhaust is rattling so I need to get that sorted
eays enough

- Clutch seemed like it was slipping Monday night and the brakes are shit!
check clutch to see if it is at end of its life, and G40 brakes are shit anyway lol, might need checking tho...

- Oh and the boot didn't lock, which I didn't find out till I got home so I had a mate of mine delock it for now
boot lock id take off and sit in some wd40 or something to loosen the internals

Hey Laura,  I am also 24 and a girly, although from down south in Buckinghamshire :)
I'm on my second G40 which I bought at the weekend.  Sounds like you are as excited as me to get started!
Nice looking Gee btw :)

Think these guys have helped you with pretty much everything so my advice to you would be to look after it, have fun and keep everyone updated on how you're getting on!

Welcome on board, as for brakes I'd flush all the brake fluid out and bleed em up before spending too much on upgrades.

if the boot lock continues to stick.....take it off by removing the boot plynth via the 4 screws underneath then go inside the bootlid from
behind the plastic panel inside and carefully squeeze the sides after you have unclipped the mechanism lever (easier on looking)
then prise out the circlip on the back of the barrel.  The barel will drop out.  now methodically remove the key pins inside and place them in
the order you took them out.  clean them all and the barrel and the plastic lock holder, re grease putback togther and it will be mint for many years
to come.

as for running hot as already metioned its fairly common in traffic situations..
