194bhp - 1341 Turbo

« on: January 29, 2012, 06:51:41 pm »

After riding out in Yoof's Polo at Bylton and doing a track day last year at Oulton in the Polo I have decide to strip the Polo out to fit some bucket seats and harnesses. A full PPP roll cage will be going in at a later date.

Pictures will do the talking:

Start of strip.

Got bored of the stripping so I fitted my new Ally rad and new braided turbo oil drain.

Decided to move the battery to the boot.

Some homemade door cards.

Setting up the position of the seats.

Seat frames tacked in.

Seats trial fitted.

Once happy the frames where then properly welded in. Got a guy from work to weld the drivers side in and gave me a quick lesson in welding so I did the passenger side.

Sorted out the harness mounts.

Next stage was to spray the mounts black and then to put the carpet back.

Trimmed some carpet for the rear bench, still got a few bits to tidy up and some bits need cutting for the rear turrets, will be doing that next week sometime.

If you're tracking it I'd get those harnesses mounted properly (on a strut brace or roll cage) or you'll do yourself an injury if you crash, with them being that low down. Looks good otherwise though!

Looks like the Alex's are giving Robin safety lessons, lol. I just posted about the same on FB. Yoof had a decent bar that could be welded in, before they talked me into the cage....bad boys.

Thanks for the comments and advice guys. Never really thought about the danger in having the harnesses mounted low down.

The angle is probably within FIA spec to be fair:

Robin- have you used spreader plates under the floor for the rear mounts behind the seat?

I think 45 degrees is the max but the 10 degrees is preferred. The bar between the struts at the back is perfect.

What about a good selection of hammers?

Car looks good though Robin. You've not left much room for tall passengers!!!  Wink
