Quick Running Question
«
on:
January 27, 2012, 10:46:51 am »
I'm new to G's so this could be a pointless question..
I've had a couple of running issues since getting the car, they all seem to be sorted now.
I want to know if it's worth getting a custom remap?
I'm running R1 charger, 65mm psd pullies with toothed belt, 250cc injectors, cam, fmic, oil cooler, air intake, 4 branch, exhaust, updated plugs and leads etc.
It was rolling roaded by previous owner at 150bhp.
Is that about right? Or worth a tweak..
Thanks a lot.

Does it have a chip already? If you got the money i would recommend PPP for a remap. I had a psd chip and a similar setup and it melted a piston.
I would stick a cam in it then map it.

It already has a PPP chip and upgraded cam.
Just wondered if it's actually worth the pennies to get a proper custom map.
Like what power benefits would there be or is 150 about right for this set up

Don't know how much more power you'd make hit your engine would be a damn sight safer as the fueling would be correct along with better driveabity smoother power and probably better fuel economy!

Yeah i had a PSD chip, same as you but i had no cam at the time and i melted a piston. Trust me it gets really expensive if you melt a piston and its a lot cheaper to get a remap.
Power wise, prob not a great deal. Might get from 150bhp to 160bhp but as antony said it would be safer for your engine. Also your mpg would be better. Them PSD chips in my eyes are a waste of money. Cause its a generic chip they just chucked soo much fuel into the engine it was terrible. My car did not pass an mot with a cat and that PSD chip. I had to put my standard chip in just to pass it through. When i had it rolling roaded the fella said it was leaning out in every gear once it got to around 6k! The limiter was something daft like 8k on them chips, imagine what damage that could cause i.e melted piston.
Play it safe and get ppp to map it for you when their not too busy. My rebuild was £1500, £300 seems like the cheaper option now.

Also my car made the same bhp as yours with less mods. Something to think about.

It#'s not always about the power, it's teh way it's delivered and how nice it makes the car. ie where you'd have to downshift beofre, you may be able to just put your foot down instead.

Call me crazy but I just stack an eaton in mine and made 143, the rest of the engine stock and with standat chip. I would expect a bit more from your car...

You should fit 250cc injectors, a 250kpa map sensor and go for a proper remap Alex..
Before all that have you ever measured your afr?

also get a bigger intercooler, as eaton's tend to blow hotter than g-lader.

I should go for bigger injectors and stuff but you know my case better than anyone Alex. I already have a bigger intercooler to fit but never got around to it. Never had a single problem with the standard one though! And where I live 37oC is standard temperature in the summer.
