Can you put hubcentric spacers/adaptors on rear drum brakes or do you need to convert to discs??

Yes, you can use spacers with suitably longer bolts.

Thanks is the only way to adapt the rear drums to 5 stud by changing the shoe's cover with a 5 stud mk3 version or would that be too large??

use a mk3 golf rear drum setup! its a common conversion for better rear brakes as there large and will come in the 5x100 you desire

might be passat drums... i know you can get some 5x100 drums whatever they are off anyway
