1272 T without BVH.....Worth it?
«

Basically I'm at the point where I'm seriously considering turboing the G. But I'm only running the standard engine at the moment. All my current power mods are bolt on. (Obv the cam and inlet will change as part of the conversion)
Question is am I pissing in the wind by not changing the head to a big valve jobbie when I do the conversion or will I still see a significant gain from where I am now with toothies and a flowed charger?
I don't want to do the conversion and then find that I should have gone for a BVH. But at the same time the BVH will significantly increase the cost of the conversion in the first place in which case I may just spunk all the cash on handling goodies and stick with the lader..

I'd personally be tempted to go with your suggestion of spending some cash on handling items. A PPP Stage 3 subframe would be lovely! By the sounds of it your setup is already putting out a sizable amount of power.

Why not mate... You'll see a difference and you will gain more top end power that you don't have with the g..
If you have a healthy engine, you use gt inlet, larger tb, gt cam, g60 injectors a proper remap and you boost it up to 1,2-1,3bar you'll see aprox 170bhp with stock head...

170 is not enough to be honest not for the sort of money we're talking about.

That will be with 1,4-1,5 bar?

You should be able to turbo convert fairly cheaply if you sell off the G-lader bits.
Think at least 180bhp is doable with 21psi of boost from a K03, probably more like 185bhp.

180 would be about enough... I think you'll be pleased to hear though Andy that some PPP goodies are further up the shopping list at the moment!

Have you got a 1341 bottom end Robin? If so, what's the compression?

9:1 CR on Robin's motor - he uses a stock G40 HG.
I run a stock head, 1341cc and 9.3:1 CR due to a thin metal HG. Need to remap mine on Emerald for high boost, but expecting 190bhp+.

It's well worth it with a stock head Alex. I've just fitted a T25 on an Emtec equal length manifold to mine and it's a lot quicker than my G, 166bhp and stripped out, ever was. This is in a car with back seats spare wheel and sub box in the boot.
I'm running pretty much the same setup James made 191bhp at Aldon with a few years back.
No idea what boost I'm running though.

Does the cam have to be changed for a turbo? Oc could you get away with a standard g40 cam for moderate boost levels?

Plenty of turbo cam info if you Use the search function. But main jist of it is when using a k03 you could do with a gt cam or a "turbo" spec one as otherwise the k03 will spool far to early and thus chocking up to early
